FUNDAMENTALS
UNITS 1-11 AND 1 OVERVIEW
Followed by an introductory unit that taps into the core identity of a Jewish child and his or her mission from Hashem, units 2-8 provide children with the tools to use their gifts from Hashem—brain, hands, mouth, heart, etc.— in the appropriate way, maximizing their ability to have positive social interactions. Units 9-11 lay a solid foundation and provide tools for life in emotional awareness and regulation.
Unit 1: Join the Shpy's Team
Children will be introduced to the special status they have as a helper of Hashem. They will be imbued with an understanding of their mission and a deep desire to fulfill the will of Hashem.
Unit 2: My Thinking Brain
Children will be introduced to the brain and the power it has to think about others, leading to strong friendships and the ability to be a team player.
Unit 3: My Mitzvah Hands
Children will know which things are okay for their hands to touch with or without permission, and when it is the appropriate time to do so.
Unit 4: My Mitzvah Mouth (Part 1)
Children will be able to recognize the difference between their needs, urgent needs, and wants. In addition, they will learn how to ask for what they need in a pleasant tone of voice.
Unit 5: My Mitzvah Mouth (Part 2)
Children will be able to recognize and exercise patience while waiting for the appropriate time to ask an adult or friend for something they want, and how to interrupt appropriately if they have a need that requires attention.
Unit 6: Happy Hearts (Part 1)
Children will feel responsible to behave with Ahavas Yisrael (love to their fellow Jew) and understand the damage inflicted by acting hurtfully toward their friends.
Unit 7: Happy Hearts (Part 2)
Children will be able to differentiate between what are helpful or hurtful words to use. In addition, they will become aware of when private or personal information is helpful or hurtful to share.
Unit 8: Invisible Space Bubbles
Children will develop a sense of how much space they can call their own in various situations. They will learn to use the tools Hashem has given them, namely their senses, to refrain from entering the space of others.
Unit 9: Flexible Thinking (Chanukah)
Children will understand what it means to think of solutions and be flexible, and learn the tools necessary to exercise their flexibility. A lesson from the menorah will motivate them in this area.
Unit 10: Emotional Regulation
Children will understand the importance of calming down when one is feeling angry (or experiencing intense emotions), and gain the necessary tools to help them do so, thereby preventing hurtful actions or revenge, chas v’shalom.
Unit 11: Conflict Resolution
Children will be able to use a three-step process for solving conflicts.
1 Grand Multi-Level Overview
This interactive grand overview will give educators an opportunity to review the units and give the children a chance to demonstrate understanding and mastery of the tools and lessons they've gained thus far. It contains enough material for two presentations.
